Resurfacing Garage Floors – Westfield NJ – Case Study Step #6
The day after the concrete overlay (skim coat) was applied we applied 2 coats of a waterbased epoxy. Waterbased garage floor epoxy coating is more like a concrete floor paint.
2 coats were required for complete coverage. We were able to apply both coats in 1 day.
In hind site I would have applied 2 concrete overlay coats with color mixed in. Both coats could have been applied in 1 day.
The day after the application of the waterbased epoxy coating I applied a Urethane coating. Simple roll on application.
If I had applied 2 overlay coats I could have saved myself a day by applying the Urethane the day I applied the concrete floor paint. I would have been done and had a more decorative surface. Oh well, next time.
Anyway take a look at the photo below.
It’s important when you consider resurfacing your garage floor that you use the right products and application methods. Don’t think that an inexpensive floor paint kit is the solution. I get tons of calls from people who have garage floor paint peeling off the floor within a month. Trying to remove peeling floor paint is not fun.
I hope this Case Study helps you. Let me know your garage stories.

How does a system like this hold up to freeze/thaw and exposure to de-icing salts?
good news
.
I have a garage floor in Westfield NJ that needs this kind of treatment, i.e. fill in spalled areas (depressions) and repair the front edge of the slab which has spalled/chipped off. Will this product hold a clean edge at the front of the garage floor (entrance)? What is the name of the product used, where can I get it and how do I find someone to do it?
Real resurfacing is not an epoxy system alone. If its heavily detiriorated, it needs a resinous cement overlay with epoxy coating over it then a poly top coat. Just from the pic shown, even with a low res of a cpu you can tell that it’s a thin film , rolled on system. Every knook, cranny and flaw is not only noticable but highlighted. A true resurface job would be poured at 1/2 inch thick and self leveled and cured at 1/4 inch. Of course not before properly prepping the substrate. Definately not a DIY job!
