How The Internet Saved Concrete
2000 years ago the Romans were living it up. Drinking wine, eating mutton chops, hanging poolside, mixing concrete, building cities.
All this was thanks to some creative entrepreneurs who learned how to mix ash, limestone and water to create concrete. They made some awesome buildings. The concrete enabled them to engineer and construct cities. They built aqueducts out of concrete that brought water to Rome from 50 miles away. High taxes brought their culture down but that’s another story.
For the past 1800 years or so concrete was pretty dull.(with a few exceptions). Gray and drab.
However…the internet has changed all that. Todays “Entrepreneurial Romans” are concrete artisans who have showcased their skills on line. They are providing solutions to the construction industry and making life better.
Take a look at sites like Concrete Ideas and Concrete Network . These sites provide a window to the artisans and the products they use. Concrete overlays, stamped concrete, vertical concrete, epoxy flooring products , polished concrete, the list goes on
Just look at the photo below. Thats Dan DiLeonardo of Surface Tone, Norwalk Connecticut. He took a bad concrete slab and turned it into a highly functional decorative concrete floor. He provided a solution that could have been a financial disaster for the client.
Look at how happy Dan is. We should all be so fortunate to create like Dan and all the modern Roman Concrete Artisans who are learning and creating thanks to what we find on the internet.
