Graffiti has come a long way in the past 4 decades though it’s been around for thousands of years. In recent years it was considered vandalism. Now it’s a constant debate as to whether it is vandalism or art. The top graffiti artists have their works in art galleries worldwide. When it ends up unwanted on the sides of buildings it’s vandalism. In an art gallery, art. The vandals are artists. The controversy is part of the appeal.

One artistic entrepreneur, Tamryn Doolan has formed a business called Caribou Art in Mesa Arizona. Tamryn created a line of concrete stencils called Flattoos. Tamryn uses Hardy Backer Board with a thin concrete coating as her canvas. . When dry she applies the Flattoos which stick to the concrete. From there she fills in the blanks.

Just a comment and concern from a volunteer in Seattle who has painted over and clean up over 3000 ugly tags in Seattle King county over several years. Our group always asks permission to clean up or paint over. The vandals ( we NEVER use the ‘a’ word) never ask permission. That is what makes them vandals. Some graffiti I have seen is very beautiful and artistic looking, too bad it costs thousands of dollars and man-kid hours to clean up this blight on our private and public property. I make really nice sculpture out of chicken guts that are displayed in a few art galleries. Do you want me to come one night and attach a couple to you car and your front door or office lobby?
