One Day Floors Polyaspartics
I had the opportunity to watch the installation of this project by One Day Floors polyaspartic installation company Concrete Art of Oklahoma. David Owens owner of Concrete Art of Oklahoma secured the 10,000 square foot project for a local Oklahoma City businessman and car collector. Project was complete in 3 days.
Polaspartics are technologically advanced floor coatings that are the Rolls Royce of concrete coatings. They have very unique properties that require proper training to apply. Basically the floor has to be ground down removing the top layer opening up the pores of the concrete. Various tests are performed to ensure there are not any bond breaking contaminents.
Once the floor is properly prepared the polyaspartics are applied. One of the unique properties is that aspartics “wet” into the concrete. They actualy soak into the concrete rather than just stick to the surface like epoxies and concrete overlays. Once dry the first coat becomes part of the floor. Failure is almost impossible, the concrete will come up first.
Polyaspartics were created by Bayer Material Sciences over 20 years ago. They were originally used as a steel coating. Success led to additional research and development finally adapted to work as a concrete coating. Another of the unique features is the rapid cure process. Depending on floor size numerous coats can be applied in a single day. The fast process opens up massive application opportunities.
A residential garage floor and other smaller floors can be completed on a single day. Grind the floor in the morning then apply a pigmented first coat. Give it an hour to dry and the second coat can be applied with a colored pigment or braodcast in decorative chips or colored quartz. Then a clear top coat is applied. Polyaspatics are extremely clear and will not yellow like epoxies. The clarity makes chips and quartz look excellent. In fact the results open up use in not only garages and industrial spaces but retail stores, restaurants and other public spaces.
As a result of the rapid cure process One Day Floors www.onedayfloors.com was formed. This particular project was completed in 3 days due to the size. The first day the floor was ground to a level finish, cracks and expansion joints were filled with One Day Floors crack filler. Day 2 the first coat was applied in the morning, custom graphics in the afternoon. Day 3 second coat and decorative chips were applied then final coat in the afternoon. Floor was ready for use the following morning.
One Day Floors was formed by industry veterans Doug Bannister owner of The Stamp Store based in Oklahoma and enCOUNTER, a Decorative Concrete mix for counetrtops, sinks and tile. Joe and Jerry Sheehan are the technological experts and pioneers in the use of polyaspartics as a concrete coating.
Though there are a few companies in the market, One Day Floors has made it a company policy to stick with the Pure Bred Bayer formula. The Pure Bred Bayer formula though a bit more expensive than diluted versions has superior performance features. Compression strength and durability are unsurpassed with an added benefit of elasticity. This enables the Pure Bred Polyaspartics to expand and contract with movements of concrete.
