How To Clean a Polyaspartic Garage Floor by GF1 of Minneapolis
If you are considering a polyaspartic garage floor coating for and wondering, How Do I keep It Clean? here’s the solution. This simple system was developed by Joe Sheehan owner of GF1 in Minneapolis Minnesota.
Due to the force of gravity all floors get dirty, dirt and dust drops to the floor. High traffic areas like a garage floor, restaurant or retail store floor, industrial floors get scratched, fluids from cars get on the floor or sodas get dropped, they take a beating. They need to be cleaned.
Not all floor coatings are easily cleaned. Some yellow from UV Rays, some get stained while scratch marks with some garage floor coatings will fray. If you’ve ever seen scartched plastic you may have noticed the edges are frayed. When this happens on a floor the scratch collects dust and will never come out no mater how good a cleaning.
Joe Sheehan has looked closely at this issue. In fact he got down on his hands and knees with a magnifying glass examining why certain floor coatings always look dirty. It’s frayed edges on scratches that trap dirt. GF1 run by Joe Sheehan in Minneapolis discovered that polyaspartic garage floor coatings do not fray when scratched and can be cleaned to look like new.
The tools needed are
- Joy – Lemon Fresh like in the commercial
- Foam Squeegy – available at any hardware or home improvement store
- Soft Bristle Broom – a small hand held and a push broom
- Amonia
- Bucket
- Small Cup
- Wet/Dry Vacuum
- Minneapolis Garage Floor

- Grease, Oil or Dark Stains – pour warm water in your bucket. Fill your cup with water and a drop or two of Joy (small drops are all you need, put too much Joy in with water and you get a soap film that’s hard to clean). Pour on stain and agitate with your small bristle brush.
- Add 10% Amonia to warm water and pour on your garage floor. Do Not put Joy or any other soap in your bucket. Soap residue is slippery and also a place where dirt collects. Using your long handled broom agitate the wet surface. This dislodges dust and dirt which is abrasive on your floor. Occasionally cleaning your floor like this will prolong the life. Keep in mind that dirt is abrasive like sandpaper.
- Once clean pull water out of garage onto your driveway (summer and warm months). In cold climates like Minneapolis pull the dirty water to one spot on your garage floor and Vacuum with your Wet/Dry machine. If you pull the water onto your driveway the water will freeze and now you have a hazard. Seems obvious but people do it. That’s for another article.
This process seems painfully simple and obvious but it works. This process keeps a polyaspartic garage floor coating clean and new even many years later. The ability to clean a floor like this is a benefit of polyaspartic coatings that few other surfaces can match. Removing dirt limits abrasion and deterioration . The ability to keep a floor clean ensures a long life to your garage floor and part of the reason behind why GF1 can provide long term warranty’s to their Minneapolis customers.
