There are two products that will solve most NYC basement waterproofing issues. The first is an epoxy waterproofer that can be easily rolled on brick, concrete or block floors and walls. It’s a 100% solids epoxy that cures to ceramic like finish and withstands tons of moisture pressure keeping water out and basements dry.

Color packs can be mixed in with each gallon or it can be applied clear. It adheres to just about any material so it can be used to fill cracks and close up areas around pipes. It’s even submersible and is used to line concrete water tanks.

The other product is used for exterior concrete and masonry products including foundations and building facades. It works as a waterproof sealer. Many apartment building owners apply to the entire exterior. A simple system with a 10 year warranty that is sprayed on the surface.

Connecticut is a wet state and waterproofing basement floors and walls causes many homeowners distress. Frequently the solution is not a major expense.

One of the leading causes of moisture is faulty gutters. Water coming off your roof that is not directed away from your foundation may be one of the leading causes. Having your gutters checked is your first step to moisture mitigation.

When water travels down your foundation walls tremendous pressure can build. Concrete block and poured concrete foundation walls and floors have airholes and veins that moisture vapor can penetrate. In many cases a new gutter system will alleviate some of your moisture problems.

You can also apply an epoxy for waterproofing your basement floors and walls. Epoxy waterproofers are a thick system that can be used to fill cracks and completely cover your interior concrete surfaces that will and substantially reduce the moisture levels, block radon and prohibit mold growth. Cost for the high performance waterproofing epoxies will run 60-90 cents per square foot.

You can also apply a waterproofing sealer to the exposed areas of your foundation walls whether brick or concrete. In most cases you can solve your waterproofing basement issues with the right sealers and gutter system for a minimal expense. Contact Ed at The Concrete Store for products and more information in Connecticut at 203-762-1366. The combination of rocky soil and close proximity to Long Island Sound means that a tremendous amount of moisture travels underground. Moisture is moved by tremendous pressure and will push right through a concrete foundation wall or floor.

Concrete is porous with airholes and veins that enable moisture pressure to come through floors and walls and end up in the basement. Even though you may not see water, moisture vapor is enough to create water damage, mold and keep your basement cold and damp. This has an impact on the rest of a home or commercial property. Most people take damp basements for granted as if it’s just a fact of life.

Typical Concrete Showing Airholes and Veins

There are inexpensive solutions. The Concrete Store carries an epoxy waterproofer that is applied by roller and brush that stops tons of moisture pressure from coming through walls and floors. It also significantly reduces radon from penetrating concrete. It comes in gallons for $74.95 with coverage of 100-150 square feet per gallon or about 50-75 cents per square foot.Once applied tile, carpet or hardwood can be installed.

Other solutions are applying a waterproof sealer to concrete and brick foundations that will prevent snow and rain from penetrating concrete.

We’re finally starting to see milder weather in Connecticut. The last month has been the typical winter combination of extreme cold, snow, then short term thaws followed by more cold. That causes ice.

As the mild weather has moved in the melted ice has saurated the ground causing tremndous moisture pressure which is is seeping through the concrete foundation, walls and floors.

Basement Waterproofing Solution

There are few solutions. Chargar Corportation a manufacturer of products for the concrete and masonry industry manufactures a basement concrete waterproofing epoxy. This is the only solution that I have found.

Their epoxy waterproofer is a 100 % solids product that can be applied by brush or roller. It drys to a ceramic like finish resisting extreme hydrostatic pressure. Sand can be added or it can be colored. Chargar has available 35 various colors which can be mixed.

It can be used for Fish Ponds, Waterfalls, Fountains, Swimming Pools, Garages, basements and water Tanks.

Chargar is based in New Haven Connecticut and will ship nationwide and overseas
