The basement had a lot to work with. Ceiling heights of 13 feet, area of approximately 4,000 square feet. Wine racks were built in and 102 year old hand hewn oak beams and barn wood from an old barn in Illinois were used.

Limestone plaster was used on various walls. Concrete was carved into stone sizes in harmony with the scope of the room. The project took under 4 weeks to complete. The final result portrayed the look an of old Tuscan Wine Cellar, authentic, real.

Looking for walls that rock? Vertical Artisans will teach you how. Vertical Artisans based in the Chicago area has created an online school that teaches the art of concrete carving.

Vertical Artisans sent over these photographs of a project completed in the Chicago area. The room is a 500 square foot basement in a historic home in a Chicago suburb.

The owners called in Vertical Artisan founder Nathan Giffen looking for a solution. They didn’t know what to do with the basement.

The entire basement was completely gutted with an interior that fit perfectly with the history of the home. Nathan designed the basement to look like the stone came first. The goal was to create a room that did not look prefabricated.

The majority of the space is built with concrete and old barnboard on the ceiling. A second room was built out as a wine cellar maintaining temperature at 57 degrees.

As mentioned these are walls that rock ! If you have an interest in learning this craft as a profession Nathans online school will teach you one of the most satifying and lucrative trades in the construction business. This is a high end profession that is in demand in every market.

Vertical Artisans has signed on more than 100 members this year. Some students are based overseas and as far away as China. New educational videos are constantly being added to the membership based site, part educational site and part social network. The social networking of Vertical Artisans provides and encourages ideas and communication with artisans in the network.
