Building Products

Etching concrete with a gel acid is the most effective solution. And it works!

If you have concrete sidewalks that have worn down and become slippery, this the remedy to prevent slip and fall accidents. The causes of slippery sidewalks are due to two main reasons:

Foot Traffic will wear down concrete over time.

Algae buildup from wet sidewalks that never dry.

For years the solution has been liquid acid which will create a profile on cementitious surfaces. The problem is handling the hazardous material and the lack of control. The results are ineffective. Sand blasting is another solution that works but with obstacles . Price is the first. A few years ago Sandblasting was as high as $1.50 per square foot. It is down to about 80 cents psf but still way above the price of using a gelled acid which is under 20 cents psf.

Additionally sand blasting requires expensive machinery and 3 people to operate. Plus cleanup is a mess.

Concrete etching with a gel acid is simple, effective and LEED qualified. And it’s also used in a system called Flattoos, which has created a cottage industry with graphic design on concrete floors. Vist www.etchingconcrete.com for more information.

It just doesn’t pay to cut corners. If you are looking for a heavy duty jobsite radio that lasts and performs, the Bosch Power Box 360 is the best choice among a sea of portables. According to the reviews, the performance is top notch with lots of 5 star ratings. We own many Bosch tools and have found it’s always a waster to buy inferior products. And when it comes to music while working, only quality sound is worthwhile. Inferior static sounding models deserve the sledge hammer.

Decorative concrete has many options when it comes to NYC industrial flooring. There are various types of coatings that solve a myriad of design and function issues.

Each floor is different. In some cases your floor may need a self leveling concrete to raise the floor and level the surface. There are a few self leveling concrete products that can be stained and sealed. The results can be flat gray with a matte finish or bright colors with a high gloss.

Concrete polishing has become a popular finish in NYC and is in demand as industrial, retail and residential flooring. You likely have seen it and possibly thought it was marble. Stain and dye options for polishing projects have opened up numerous options.

Epoxies are still very popular for industrial and commercial kitchen use. Coloring techniques have made epoxies a decorative option as well.

The dog kennel floor featured here was a do it yourself concrete floor coating that delaminated within 6 months of application. Based in the Vermont area, the owner applied an industrial, name brand epoxy.

The reason for the dog kennel floor epoxy coating failure was due to a few reasons. One is that the floor was not properly prepared. Any coating will delaminate if the floor is not mechanically profiled. The second is in the Vermont area ground moisture and salts inherent in concrete are pushed to the surface via hydrostatic pressure. Few coatings have the ability to withstand the chemical breakdown caused by moisture and salts.

Garage Outfitters specializes in Dog Kennel Floor restoration and coatings nationwide. Rock Solid has the equipment and expertise required to remove failed coatings. Not an easy task. The floor tapered to drains which was one of the first challenges. Dog kenel floors need constant cleaning. Water needs to freely drain without pooling. Many of the rooms were small requiring hand grinders and compact grinding machines all in the GF1 arsenal.

The coating removal consisted of 2,800 sf and took 2 days to complete. If you are in the Vermont area and need coatings removed from your concrete floor visit Garage Outfitters Vt
